Criticism: Myths and Childishness

This essay by Andy Rutledge, Criticism: Myths and Childishness is definitely worth a read for every designer. Witty, To the point, as well as humorous.

"Excuses don’t cut it. Only excellent design does.

It’s not about the designer or the agency or the company who owns the site. Design criticism is about the results. Period ... I ’ve got news for you: design criticism has nothing to do with you, you childish egotist. It’s about the design. Sorry to burst your bubble."

Random got beautiful

A good idea, by designer Nikki Farquharson.
"
The idea is to take objects of various colours out of their original context and place them together to create a new one."

Toy-A-Day

My friend, Gaby, recently introduced me to this awesome blog (something I wish i would have thought of myself) where people show off their paper toy designs (most including a PDF pattern), a new one everyday.
I cannot wait to design my own! Do share yours, if you do design one.

See more at Toy-A-Day.

Some of my faves.

Nasa finds Water in Mars

"This is the first time martian water has been tasted and tested."
-William Boynton, mission scientist

Nasa has discovered water on planet, Mars by the Phoenix space craft which landed on May 25. The water was found by melting the icy soil. This will lead to further experiments on whether life on Mars ever existed, or could possibly exist.

Happy August.

Wow, it is almost near the end of summer and August is finally year, my favorite summer month. So let me share my excitement with you, along with some facts about the ninth month (courtesy of wikipedia).

-
originally named Sextilis, because it was originally the sixth month in roman calendar
-It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year
-renamed August in honor of Augustus
-August originally had 29 days, but Augustus took two days from February and gave it to August when Sextilis was renamed in his honor

enjoy your august. :]
