Replate

Designers Axel Albin and Josh Kamler have carried on the concept of replating your food - to place unwanted leftovers typically on a doggie bag, on top of the nearest trashcan so it doesn'y go to waste.
We started this project because we noticed that people in West Coast cities and beyond were leaving their leftovers on top of (or next to) garbage cans when they couldn't find someone to give them to. We thought this behavior was worth talking about, so we gave it a name. What is your opinion about this? Would you take part, and be an activist?

Jamie Wieck
It's is always great when you see product design, with a good and constructive concept behind it. With that said, I really enjoy these shopping bags from Jamie Wieck's Portfolio, where the bag literally holds his things.

Check out these business cards, also from Wieck, with the idea that "that a prospective client would want to keep on their table rather than in their pocket."

This is Sand
"The digital sandbox on thisissand.com takes after the physical one. The user is allowed to do what he or she wishes with the elements in the sandbox. Sometimes the resulting pieces are expressive, sometimes they become more abstract. And just as a real world sandbox, the one on thisissand.com can be smoothed out and re-sculpted again time after time."Here is my masterpiece! Try yours here! Thisissand.com

philip kwame apagya

Today in my African Art class, we were introduced to contemporary artist's from Africa. One of the ones that caught my attention was Philip Kwame Apagya.
Apagya uses photography and to take portraits of people on his painted backdrops of commissioned painted backgrounds. These backgrounds
" [portray] everything people dream of having:
fake new england country houses
showing off some porcelain,
VCRs and TVs in bar closets,
modern kitchens with well-stocked refrigerators
with coke and cheetos...
portraits with with a quarter / half / full smile,
because nobody in africa is really deceived by make-believe...
but for one glorious moment they can have it all."
